For the last 6 months (ever since my interview on the Lightsource podcast by the guys at studiolighting.net) I’ve been getting requests to put on a workshop. Well, I’m finally giving in and doing it, but like everything else I do it’s gonna be done MY WAY which as you probably know means over-the-top! This will be a hands on, 2-day workshop with 6-10 models and my complete style team! We’re planning on four different shoots over the two days, including a night shoot! Indoor lighting, outdoor lighting, balancing and overpowering the sun, metering and more! We’ll also spend a half day on intermediate and advanced processing and retouching for NATURAL and REALISTIC looks as well as some fashion retouching! Mix in some discussion and exercises on creativity and this will not be like any other workshop you’ve attended!
DO NOT come to this workshop if your be-all, end-all goal in photography is taking pictures in a dark studio in front of wrinkled cloth backgrounds or a portrait park with a bunch of fake sets! Look at my work and you’ll see that isn’t what I do!
If instead you want to learn how to find the light or, as I often do, create the light, then this is the place to be!
And no holding back and no trying to sell you a bunch of “stuff”, I’ll answer ANY questions about how I do what I do!
If you sign up before July 16th then it’s only $249 PLUS you’ll receive a copy of my personally created BAD Actions! This includes venue/location fees, style costs, meals, etc.! If I do this again it will NOT be this inexpensive, so come take advantage of me for this first workshop, it’s going to be crazy fun!
Call or e-mail me with any questions! Payment by Paypal or call the studio with your credit card (see flyer below)!

Ok, so this week I turned the big 4-0, but you’re the one getting the present! Anyone who books me for their senior session during the month of April will get an extra $40 in print credit! Call or message me today to take advantage of this! Because most of our sessions are model-for-a-day sessions I only have a limited number of days available and spring and summer are just around the corner!

Nice series Brent, and what a great locale for a backdrop. I’m particularly fond of the image shot into the sun. From what I can decipher, there is the obvious main high camera left. Either you had some serious punch there or perhaps a second taking care of the foreground. Additionally, even with low sun, I imagine there was some challenge there with balancing and sync speed. Care to share details at to the setup?
Thanks Michael, the shot into the sun was done with one Hensel Porty 1200b camera left shot at almost full power. I used a Hensel Beauty Dish with a 7″ 30-degree grid for the modifier. Camera settings were manual mode, f22, ISO 100 @ 1/125th of a second because of the relatively slow sync speed of the Phase One AFD body and it’s FP shutter. Lens was the Mamiya 55-110 IIRC. The image from the P30 back was processed in Capture One 5.1 and Adobe Photoshop CS5 Beta. At full power the Porty puts out a lot of light but I did lift the shadows a little bit in some of the more distant shrubs camera-right during processing.
The last two images were shot with natural light and the sunset images were shot with two Porty units, one with the beauty dish as the main and the second with a 7″ bare reflector as a kicker/separation light. The more close-up night shot had the main double-gridded with the center 7″ 30-degree grid and the 22″ 30-degree grid. Night shots were done on a tripod, I believe around 1/30th @ f5.6-6.3. The second vertical image had the same setup as the into-the-sun shot, just with less power output from the porty.
