Meet Airion, my last senior of the season, a football player from Topeka West and all-around cool dude!

Last week I photographed Grandparents Day at Scott Elementary School. These events are always fun because of the interesting people you meet with some great stories and history. One stand-out for me was when Gill Carter stopped by and chatted a bit. Shown in the right photo below, Gill was a former Negro League baseball player who later went on to play for the Chicago Cubs!

Kristen was the lucky winner of a portrait session and a 16×20″ gallery-wrap canvas print at my grand opening back in October! Last weekend she brought the kids in for the session, here’s my favorite image of the session!

Tonight I’ll be participating in Arts Connect Topeka’s First Fridays Art Walk with an exhibition of twenty of my photos from my 2004 trip to Japan. Here is my artists statement for this exhibit:
“In 2004 it was my great privilege and pleasure to be given the chance to fulfill a life-long dream of visiting Japan by the Rotary Club’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program.
Beginning on May 14th and continuing through June 10th I spent 28 days on the eastern shores of Honshu, Japan, the largest of the Japanese Islands. Along with our Rotarian team leader, I and the other three team members were fully immersed in Japanese culture for the duration of our stay as we lived with Japanese families, took part in ceremonies and visited historic cities, temples and shrines that dated back hundreds and in some cases thousands of years.
As a photographer, my camera bag with two digital cameras and assorted lenses, flashes and accessories was a constant companion as well, affectionately known by my fellow team members as the “6th member” of our group. I captured several thousand images during our trip and am now presenting twenty of my favorite images to the public. While these images showcase only a fraction of what I experienced during our journey, I believe the impact of these select photographs convey a great deal about the people and sights of this area of Japan.”
Hope you can stop by!
Meet Ashley, another one of my great SHHS seniors! Ashley is actually in my daughters photography class (no pressure there!) and heard about me though her, so a big thanks to Emily for the referral! From what I understand, the first words to my daughter the next day in class were “Your dads crazy!”. Yup, no argument here, but we had fun!

On Saturday, November 1st I attended and photographed the Capital City Combat Mixed Martial Arts fights at the SportsZone in Topeka. I’ve been a big MMA/UFC fan for years and this was a great opportunity. CCC is promoted by Caged Promotions, LLC , full results fromt he evenings fights can be seen here.
I’m working on getting all the images processed but here is a sample of some of my favorites. Because of the somewhat graphic nature of these images I’m not embedding the photos, please click the following link to view them:
