This was a session from late summer that went oh-so-horribly wrong, yet I still managed to salvage some usable images.
Since earlier in the year when I had photographed “Stephanie’s Little Zoo” we’d been talking of doing a complete family session outdoors somewhere and we finally found a time that worked for everyone’s schedules.
So shortly after starting the session the new camera decided to quit. I knew the batteries had been getting low, so of course I had spare ones with me which I quickly changed out. Still nothing. Normally this is where I’d just switch to my backup camera, but I had loaned that to a friend who needed it for a wedding that weekend. I finally managed to get the camera working (communication between the digital back and the camera body), but I still didn’t really trust it. Then I found that the digital transmitter that triggers my portable lighting equipment was no longer working either. Try changing the batteries, still dead. As I’m still trying to figure out what was wrong, a gust of wind blew the portable lighting equipment over onto the gravel road.
At that point, we decided that the stars were just not aligned and that we’d have to try again another day. Thankfully, all the problems have been worked out and I haven’t had any issues since that day several months ago, and I’ll be getting back together with “the zoo” in the springtime to have another! In the meantime, thanks for your patience, Stephanie + fam!
