Julie’s Facebook Photo Party

We had our first “Facebook Photo Party” last Friday night, what a blast! There were 5 girls who just “graduated” from 8th grade earlier that day, so they were already wound up a bit from a busy day! We had pizza, soda and of course lots of photos!!! The girls each brought one or two props of their own, but they also took full advantage of my “big dumb box ‘o props”!

Facebook photo parties are for students in grades 7-10 and normally last two hours. Please call the studio at 220-7810 for more details, including pricing and available times!

Here are a few of the group shots, look for more photos on the girls Facebook pages later this week!

Sarah, THS ‘10 Senior

My first full  session for a 2010 senior comes from my alma mater of Topeka High! Sarah and her friends and family were a lot of fun to work with and had a ton of great ideas that really took advantage of the “No Limits” session!

Back to school!

Last week I was privileged to be asked to come and speak to the beginning and advanced photography classes at Highland Park High School. Ms. Hooper had seen the senior pictures I had done for a couple of her students and asked if I would come in and speak a bit and teach some basic lighting, which I was thrilled to do.

These days it’s easy for photographers, myself included, to get too caught up in the latest digital cameras, lighting equipment, computer software, etc. It was nice to be able to remind the students and myself that it’s really about the image created and not what we use to create it that’s important.

Thanks to Samantha Blanton for taking the photos of me during the beginning class Thursday morning and to all of the students and Ms. Hooper for their attention and excellent questions! I’m also including just a few of the portraits I took during the demonstration that day to show what’s possible with simple backgrounds and basic lighting equipment, in this case just one or two hot-lights and a reflector.
